Introduction |
|
The Center for Taxation and Public Governance is an independent institute established in 2006 as a knowledge center for tax governance. Its mission is to contribute to the strengthening of governments in the fields of tax policy, tax administration, tax management and legal drafting. The opening of the Center was marked by a conference on “Tax Reforms in Developing and Transition Economies” held in the Netherlands in September 2007. This event also marked the launch of the Center’s mid-career Master program for tax officials, the Tax Governance Program.
The Center believes that the goal of “tax governance” is to establish effective, efficient, transparent and accountable systems for mobilizing public resources. This is essential for the sustainable development of developing countries and emerging economies. It requires fiscal sustainability but also equitable and efficient tax systems and tax administration. Capacity building in areas such as institutional infrastructure, human resource development and public finance are crucial in this respect. This is precisely why the Center is set up and provides research, technical assistance, and education. |
